Abstract

ABSTRACT

This study aims to explore the level of digital literacy skills among science teacher trainees of different genders in IPG across Peninsular Malaysia. The uncertainty regarding the level of digital literacy between male and female science teacher trainees is a concern because digital literacy is essential for advancing digital education for teaching and learning purposes. Quantitative research is conducted through a survey approach. A total of 183 science teacher trainees, selected through random sampling, aimed to represent the entire population of 250 science teacher trainees. The data collected in empirical form will then be analysed using an independent sample t-test. The findings of the study indicate that there is no significant difference between male and female trainees concerning the level of digital literacy, with a p-value of 0.536, which is greater than the significance level of 0.05. This suggests that gender does not statistically affect the level of digital literacy. This study contributes to the discussion about digital literacy in education, highlighting the need for inclusive and gender-equitable training programs. Suggestions for improvement include involving a larger sample size and varying the sample by incorporating respondents from other backgrounds. Additionally, qualitative methods such as interviews and observations are recommended to explore various related issues more comprehensively.

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk meneroka tahap kemahiran literasi digital dalam kalangan pelatih guru sains yang berbeza jantina di IPG seluruh Semenanjung Malaysia. Ketidakpastian tahap literasi digital antara pelatih guru sains lelaki dan perempuan menjadi satu kerisauan kerana literasi digital adalah penting dalam menuju ke arah pendidikan digital untuk tujuan pengajaran dan pembelajaran. Kajian kuantitatif dijalankan melalui pendekatan tinjauan. Seramai 183 orang pelatih guru sains yang dipilih secara persampelan rawak bertujuan dan mewakili keseluruhan populasi pelatih guru sains seramai 250 orang. Data yang diperolehi dalam bentuk emperikal kemudiannya akan dianalisis menggunakan ujian-t sampel bebas. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan tiada perbezaan yang signifikan antara pelatih lelaki dan perempuan dari segi tahap literasi digital, dengan nilai p=0.536, lebih besar daripada aras signifikan 0.05. Ini menunjukkan bahawa jantina tidak mempengaruhi tahap literasi digital secara statistik. Kajian ini menyumbang kepada perbincangan tentang literasi digital dalam pendidikan, menekankan keperluan untuk program latihan yang inklusif dan setara tanpa mengira jantina. Cadangan penambahbaikan termasuk melibatkan bilangan sampel yang lebih besar dan variasikan sampel dengan melibatkan responden daripada opsyen lain. Selain itu, kaedah kualitaif seperti temubual dan pemerhatian juga dicadangkan untuk dijalankan bagi meneroka pelbagai isu berkaitan secara terbuka.
